Cuxton and Cobham Woodland Project

Cuxton and Cobham Community Woodland is a charitable project by West Kent Downs Countryside Trust ( WKDCT). The purpose of the Trust is to acquire and manage a large area of enchanting, naturally diverse and important woodland that is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

As the whole areas is a site of special scientific interest (SSSI)  the trust has developed a 10-year management plan for the whole area which has been approved by and is monitored by Natural England.  We are currently about halfway through the plan, and it is now being reviewed as a result of the effect of climate change and the threat posed by Ash die back in the area.

The land, formerly part of Lord Darnley’s Cobham Hall Estate in Kent, spans the parish boundaries of Cuxton and Cobham and lies within the West Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

WKDCT has around 80 members and a team of active volunteers that meets regularly to work on the Project, carrying out conservation tasks determined by our Woodland Management Plan.
