Our Objectives
Though our work has already made a huge difference, the affects of inappropriate management, abandonment and misuse continues to impact negatively on the woodland structure. So the restoration and improvement must continue.
At the present time we are replacing the endemic sycamore trees and conifers with native trees which favour wildlife. This opens up the canopy and promotes a variety on new growth and ground cover.
We are also removing rhododendron as it impacts the natural biodiversity, spread quickly and out-compete nearly all other trees and shrubs.
Some of our other objectives include the following:
- Acquire or manage all plots as one entire woodland
- Monitor the site, protect, and deal with destructive and inappropriate issues.
- Remove current litter and past fly-tip debris.
- Improve the diversity of the woodland.
- Carry out necessary conservation felling.
- Implement coppicing regimes and forestry thinning.
- Eradicate all rhododendron growth throughout.
- Carry out wildlife surveys and monitor activity.
- Provide and install nest-boxes and bat boxes.
- Plant native tree seedlings, protect native regeneration and introduce deer exclusion zones where necessary.
- Provide and install explanatory information boards.
- Maintain trackways. inspect and remove fallen and hazardous trees. Reinstate access.
- Provide opportunities for community involvement and countryside education through volunteering.
- Manage climate change threat tso trees and wildlife.
- Managing on going die back of Ash trees.
- Allow suitable community and recreational use conductive to the SSSI and wildlife conservation aims for the area.
